What It Means to Work with a CSAT
April 4, 2025
If you’re the wife of a man struggling with sex addiction, you’re likely overwhelmed—hurt, confused, and unsure of where to turn. As a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT), I want to speak directly to you, even though I work exclusively with addicts in recovery.
You deserve to know that your pain is valid.
While my clinical role is to guide your partner through the difficult and necessary process of recovery, part of my training as a CSAT is understanding the impact this addiction has on you. I may not be your therapist—but I am someone who sees and respects the weight of the betrayal you've experienced.
When I work with addicts, I hold them accountable. We explore the roots of their behavior, practice honesty, and build tools for long-term sobriety and relational repair. But just as importantly, I help them understand what their actions have done to you. I ensure that partner trauma isn't minimized or overlooked.
My job isn’t to fix your relationship—but to help the addict show up differently, with integrity, clarity, and empathy. Because your healing journey depends, in part, on how your partner does their work.
If you're looking for help for betrayed partners, I encourage you to find your own therapist who understands partner trauma and betrayal. A CSAT trained in partner support can be a crucial part of your healing team. And if your spouse is seeking help, make sure they’re working with a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist who honors both sides of the story—because your experience matters.
Healing takes time, but it is possible. You don’t have to go through this alone.
